Did you know that absenteeism costs the SA economy over R16bn a year?

This is according to a Mail & Guardian article printed in Aug 2014.   According to research done by Regent University Psychological Services Center:
  • 80 to 90 percent of today’s illnesses are stress-related.
  • Over 75 percent of all visits to primary care physicians are to treat stress related complaints.
  • 60 to 70 percent of all patients visiting a physician have no physical disease but are somatisizing stress (psychosomatic).
Furthermore, recent studies show that presenteeism (being absent while present (lights are on but no-one is home J) on-the-job productivity loss which can also be related  to health problems such as allergies, asthma, chronic back pain, migraines, arthritis and depression) are far more costly to business than absenteeism.

So ask yourself:
How much is stress costing my company and what can be done to remedy this?

According to the Corporate Governance Framework Research Institute: Organisations who deploy outcome-based employee wellness programmes, typically report a return on investment (ROI) -- expressed as a cost/benefit ratio -- which ranges from 1:3 up to 1:7. Employees of these organisations are reportedly more personally committed to their organisation (EMPLOYEE WELLNESS PROGRAMMES IS GOOD GOVERNANCE, 06 November 2013)

Furthermore, Corporate Wellness Programmes have been at the forefront of staff development in Fortune 500 Companies. Recent studies demonstrate the link between employee fulfilment within an organisation and the quantum success of that organisation. This sheds new light on issues troubling the modern corporation and its management. An investment in the health and happiness of your staff is therefore an investment in the ultimate commercial profitability and success of the company.
